Affirming the power of great solidarity in dealing with natural disasters

On October 13, speaking at the first Government Party Congress, term 2025-2030, General Secretary To Lam set the requirement: Localities focus on thoroughly solving the problems of flooding, environmental pollution, affecting people's lives, economic and social development and having a proactive plan to deal with storms, floods and natural disasters.

Storms cannot be avoided, we must be proactive in this, from bridges, river dykes, and sea dykes, it cannot be sandbags - a storm can just start over, the General Secretary added.

That directive is not only an immediate requirement but also a profound reminder of the long-term vision: Natural disasters are inevitable, but the damage can be reduced, the consequences can be overcome if each citizen, each locality and the entire political system take proactive action, discipline and solidarity in preventing and handling the consequences of natural disasters.

The recent storms have left serious consequences in many provinces, especially the northern mountainous provinces. The roofs have collapsed, the livestock farms are devastated, the roads are covered with mud... but between the rubble is a beautiful image of humanity - cadres, soldiers, union members, youth, and people working together to clean up, disinfect, and prevent epidemics. That is a vivid demonstration of the strength of great national unity.

The two words " proactive" that the General Secretary mentioned are partly expressed in Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang... with a sense of initiative, drastic action and responsibility to the community.

More valuable is the spirit of mutual support spreading everywhere: Provinces such as Hanoi, Gia Lai, Quang Ngai... send medical teams, bring supportive medicine; businesses support supplies and food for flooded areas; hundreds of volunteers set up environmental cleaning teams after floods. The seemingly small actions have affirmed the great value of the spirit of great national unity, true to the spirit of solidarity not only in the revolutionary struggle, but also in preserving life, protecting the environment and people's health.

At the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of localities, they organized the reception of money and goods to support flood victims in the northern mountainous areas, creating widespread movements. The Dong Nai Fatherland Front Committee informed that it had received 6 billion VND in support. In Ho Chi Minh City, on October 13, it received support from 30 units, enterprises, organizations and individuals with a total amount of goods over 6 billion VND, of which 544 million VND was alone...

Millions of hearts turn to the people affected by storms and floods. Natural disasters will continue, but the strength of Vietnamese national unity will always be the most solid shield. General Secretary To Lam's reminder of proactiveness, resilience and responsibility towards the people is the guideline for the actions of the whole society.

Storms and floods can sweep away houses and properties, but they will never sweep away the spirit of solidarity, compassion and the will to rise up of the Vietnamese people. And it is in that difficulty that the strength of the nation is affirmed. That is the strength of initiative, of the spirit of great solidarity and love.
