National Highway 51 is seriously degraded, the route connecting Long Thanh airport is slow and unsafe

Lê Thanh Phong |

The People's Committee of Dong Nai province proposed that the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance consider allocating VND1,365 billion to repair 4 national highways, especially National Highway 51.

According to the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, National Highway 51 is seriously degraded, the road surface is severely damaged, peeling, rutted, with wheel spans, potholes, the paint system is blurred, and is ineffective...

Along the entire route, there are many deep holes, buffalo and elephant holes, which are very dangerous for vehicles. Currently, vehicles passing through this section have to run very slowly, because the road is bad and unsafe.

This is a traffic axis connecting to Long Thanh airport. If the current state of disrepair continues, passengers traveling to the airport will face more risks of flight delays, or transit from Long Thanh airport to Tan Son Nhat airport will face traffic obstacles.

Everyone can imagine that if just one traffic accident occurs on National Highway 51, the entire route will be congested, vehicles cannot circulate, affecting other routes in the area.

Therefore, the repair of National Highway 51 is an urgent requirement, ensuring safety, while at the same time connecting traffic conveniently when operating Long Thanh airport.

Passengers traveling to Long Thanh airport are not only from Ho Chi Minh City but also from Bien Hoa and neighboring areas, including via National Highway 51.

For the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau route alone, the peak period can sometimes reach 32,000-48,000 vehicles/day, exceeding the designed capacity by nearly 3 times.

On this route, the number of container trucks and trucks is very large, causing the already bad road to be further damaged and plowed. People living along National Highway 51 are at risk of noise, environmental pollution and many accidents.

In addition to repairing National Highway 51, a number of transport infrastructure projects in the area need to be implemented soon to create a modern transportation system to serve economic development and connect Long Thanh airport.

In addition to the two projects of Cat Lai bridge and Dong Nai 2 bridge connecting to Ho Chi Minh City that have been proposed, Dong Nai province is implementing provincial road projects 769, 773, 770B with an implementation capital of about VND18,000 billion. When these routes are completed, traffic will be organized scientifically, and transportation will be more convenient.

However, to reduce pressure on National Highway 51, promote the development of the Southeast key economic region, the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway needs to reach the finish line on time.

On August 12, Working Group No. 2 of the Ho Chi Minh City National Assembly's delegation surveyed the implementation of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway component 3 project, requesting the investor to propose recommendations so that the entire Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway can be exploited in December 2025 as planned.

Hopefully, transport infrastructure projects in the area will be implemented smoothly and completed soon to serve the requirements of socio-economic development, supporting the effective exploitation of Long Thanh airport.
