After a week of serious traffic congestion, today, the traffic situation in Ho Chi Minh City has eased. The roads in the center are no longer under pressure due to overload, because many people return to their hometowns, reducing the number of vehicles participating in traffic.
However, organizing scientific traffic to reduce congestion is a long-term task, to serve people's convenient travel, and to minimize economic damage and environmental pollution caused by traffic jams.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a document requesting relevant agencies to implement many solutions to ensure traffic safety and order, and reduce traffic congestion in the area.
In addition to reviewing and fixing problems related to traffic lights, signs, and directional signs, the government also offers solutions to open right-turn lanes, arrange right-turn, left-turn, or continuous straight lanes for some or all vehicles when participating in traffic in some areas to ensure safety and appropriate conditions.
At intersections that are safe, there is a solution to allow vehicles to turn right continuously to reduce congestion.
This is a very suitable solution, which needs to be studied for practical application. For a long time, traffic organization has been mechanical, lacking flexibility and science, causing congestion, making people very upset. There are many intersections, if only vehicles were allowed to turn right or left, the road surface would be cleared, but because turns are prohibited, the number of stopped vehicles accumulates, causing serious traffic jams.
Even with cars, if there is suitable space at the intersection, it is completely possible to allow right turns, and it is not necessary to be rigid in the sense that every red light means stopping in all directions. Flexibility in traffic organization is knowing how to open reasonable traffic flows, so that vehicles can circulate safely and smoothly.
Safety and convenience must always go hand in hand, traffic laws must achieve both goals. Safety but congestion, affecting daily life, traffic, and environmental pollution is still not complete.
Therefore, we strongly support the solutions that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested to be studied and applied to reduce traffic jams.
