Long Thanh airport to operate in December 2025, passengers' concern is the fear of flight delays

The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is always seriously congested, this is a concern when Long Thanh Airport is put into operation.

On August 7, the Government Office announced that it had just issued Document No. 401/TB-VPCP announcing the conclusion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh regarding key national projects and works.

For the Long Thanh airport project, the Prime Minister requested to organize "3 shifts, 4 teams", ensuring the completion of the Long Thanh airport project and putting it into operation in December 2025 as committed.

The Prime Minister's order must be implemented, there is no need to discuss retreating.

However, when Long Thanh airport was put into operation, a big concern was that the connecting road system was still unfinished.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is often congested in both directions due to the number of vehicles traveling far beyond the designed capacity. As long as a traffic incident occurs or at peak times, the vehicle moves slowly, extending for kilometers, no one can know how much time it takes for 1km.

To solve this situation, the Government approved the implementation of the project to expand the first section of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway. The project will officially start construction on August 19, with a total length of nearly 22 km. The starting point of the project is at the Ring Road 2 intersection (HCMC) and the end point is at the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway intersection (Dong Nai province).

The project is expected to be completed in 2026, but it is not known when, hopefully as soon as possible to reduce pressure on this expressway.

Another bottleneck that needs to be removed is the An Phu intersection, which started construction at the end of 2022, initially expected to be completed in April 2025, but has now had to adjust the completion date to December 31, 2025.

Every day, about 22,000 vehicles travel through this intersection, mainly container trucks, tankers, and dump trucks from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Cat Lai Port, causing frequent congestion in the area.

If this intersection continues to be delayed, even if the expressway is expanded, the entire route will still be affected.

However, the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway cannot solve the traffic volume when operating Long Thanh Airport, but needs many other connecting routes.

Passengers traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport, and transit passengers between Tan Son Nhat airport and Long Thanh airport cannot rely on a route that cannot ensure stable travel time.

The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, completed in September 2026, will handle a large number of vehicles, shortening the time from the West to Long Thanh airport.

Along with the expressways, it is necessary to implement a bridge project to replace Cat Lai ferry, Nhon Trach 2 bridge, especially the metro project connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh airport.

Do it early, otherwise you will not be able to react in time.
