Metro culture seen from the pull-up bar and littering incident

Lê Thanh Phong |

Social media has been spreading a clip recording a young man doing chin-ups on metro train number 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien, the incident occurred on January 24.

In front of many passengers on the metro, the young man showed off his pull-up bar skills by using the ceiling handles and the iron bars along the ceiling of the train to "do pull-ups" and "hang himself". The passengers were not satisfied, but the young man still forced everyone to be his "audience".

According to information from Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway One Member Co., Ltd. No. 1 (HURC1 - the operator of metro No. 1), this young man played chin-up bar many times on trains No. 1401 in the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien direction and No. 1602 in the opposite direction. HURC1 has requested Ho Chi Minh City Police to verify, invite related people to work and handle according to the law.

Using a device on public transport as a physical activity tool is inappropriate, not to mention potentially unsafe for this young person and other passengers.

Not only the case of doing pull-ups on the metro, many people are not aware of maintaining order and hygiene when using public transport.

Many people bring food and drinks into the station and litter. Many passengers who are not priority passengers still use elevators reserved for the disabled, pregnant women and the elderly. Not to mention the jostling, pushing and violating safety regulations when using the metro.

Metro Line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien is a modern means of transport with a huge total investment. Users of this means of transport must have a culture of using the metro, to ensure safety, protect public property and public order, the metro will be used for a long time, clean and beautiful.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has also issued regulations on the management and operation of urban railway transport. At the same time, it also stipulates prohibited behaviors when using the Metro. Passengers need to read and comply with these regulations, and should not litter, draw graffiti, or damage equipment on the train.

To keep the metro clean and durable, not only must we promote the culture of using public transport, but we must also punish violators. For example, the young man doing pull-ups on the metro, the authorities need to intervene to handle violations according to regulations.

For littering, it is imperative to punish according to the provisions of Decree 45/2022/ND-CP. Only by applying the law to strictly handle violations can we correct them.
