Dr. Bui Thi Mai Huong, National Institute of Nutrition, said that improper nutrition is considered one of the main risk factors leading to the rapid increase of non-communicable diseases related to nutrition such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, overweight - obesity, gout, dyslipidemia.
Dr. Bui Thi Mai Huong gives 10 reasonable nutrition tips to implement the national strategy on nutrition for the period 2011 - 2020, with a vision to 2030:
Tip #1: Eat a variety of foods and make sure to meet all 4 groups: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and mineral salts.
Tip #2: Combine animal and plant protein sources, you should eat shrimp, crab, fish and beans.
Tip number 3: Eat a reasonable combination of vegetable oils and animal fats, and eat sesame and peanuts.
Tip number 4: Use iodized salt, do not eat salty foods.
Tip #5: Need to eat fruits and vegetables every day.
Tip number 6: Ensure hygiene and safety in selecting, processing and preserving food.
Tip #7: Drink enough clean water every day.
Tip #8: Breastfeed your baby immediately after birth, breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months, give appropriate complementary foods and continue breastfeeding for up to 24 months.
Tip number 9: Children after 6 months and adults should use milk and milk products appropriate for each age group.
Tip number 10: Increase physical activity, maintain a reasonable weight, do not smoke, limit drinking alcohol, carbonated drinks and eating and drinking sweets.
