On May 7, the Department of Health of Cao Bang province informed that the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology confirmed 4 samples of products from people in Nguyen Binh and Ha Quang districts that tested positive for whooping cough bacteria.
Previously, from May 2 to 4, Tinh Tuc General Hospital and Nguyen Binh District Medical Center (TTYT) received three children from Lung Sung hamlet, Yen Lac commune with signs of suspected whooping cough.
Immediately afterwards, the provincial health sector took action, took 10 samples for testing, and at the same time deployed epidemic prevention measures: sprayed environmental disinfection, provided preventive antibiotics to people in close contact and isolated patients for treatment at the district Health Center's Infectious Diseases Department.
Test results on June 6 showed that the two samples tested positive for T.T.D (born in 2020) and Ms. D.M.K (born in 2002) - the mother of another patient, both residing in Lung Sung hamlet. Another case is Ms. D.M.L (Ban Chang hamlet, Thanh Cong commune) - a coffin living in the same house as patient D.D.C (born in 2025) who died on April 20, also positive for the bacteria of the whooping cough.
A sample of patient T.L.N.M (born in 2018, Phieng Pan hamlet, Can Nong commune, Ha Quang district) being treated at Ha Quang Medical Center also gave a positive result. Previously, Can Nong commune recorded cases of whooping cough in March and April.
In order to improve the capacity to respond to epidemics, the provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) coordinated with Cao Bang General Hospital to organize training on monitoring, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases - including whooping cough - for grassroots health workers in Nguyen Binh, Bao Lac and Ha Quang districts.
It is expected that on May 7, the provincial Department of Health and the CDC will send two working groups to inspect epidemic prevention and control work in Nguyen Binh and Ha Quang.
From the beginning of 2025 to now, Cao Bang province has recorded 9 cases of whooping cough, mainly children who have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated with whooping cough ingredients.
