1. Swelling (buzz) in the hands
According to the Mayo Clinic (USA), impaired kidneys cannot eliminate excess fluid, leading to edema. The hands, along with the feet and ankles, can be unusually swollen - most clearly seen in the morning or after sitting for a long time.
2. Dry, itchy or rough skin
Cleveland Clinic (USA) and the National kidney disease Information Page NHS (UK) recorded that kidney failure accumulates toxins, causing mineral imbalances. As a result, the skin on the hands becomes dry, easily peeling, and a continuous itching sensation, especially in the morning.
3. Prolonged itching of unknown cause
According to verywell Health (USA), itching without rashes (pruritus) on the skin of the hands can be a sign of detoxification due to poor dialysis. Conditions such as prolonged itching, especially of unknown cause, need to be assessed medically early.
If you notice one or more of the above signs, especially when accompanied by hand swelling or persistent itching, see a doctor for a check-up on kidney function. Tests such as measuring creatinine in the blood, urine test... are necessary to detect kidney failure early and intervene promptly.
