Here are some ways to boost immunity in children during winter, as shared by Dr Sandhya Soneja, paediatrician at Elantis Healthcare.
- Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding helps reduce gastrointestinal and respiratory infections and helps reduce allergies in children.
- Vaccination
With dengue, malaria etc. spreading, it is extremely important to adhere to vaccination schedules to reduce infections.
- Healthy diet
A healthy diet is most important for a child's immune system. The diet should be rich in fruits and vegetables along with a high-fiber diet.
- Wash your hands often
About 80% of infections are spread through contact, so children should be encouraged to wash their hands regularly.
- Get enough sleep
When children do not get enough sleep, it leads to lower levels of proteins, especially cytokines that help fight infections. Therefore, make sure your child gets enough sleep.
- Do exercise
Regular exercise will boost your child's immune system by increasing the number of T cells that help fight infection.
