On August 22, 2025, at the National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, a baby girl weighing 3.3 kg was born from an egg and was kept in a freezing room for 11 years.
Appointment 11 years ago
In 2014, Ms. V.A (born in 1988 in Hanoi) performed in vitro fertilization at the National Fertility Support Center and gave birth to her first son. The remaining embryos were kept by her, as a secret promise: "When you are ready, I will come back to pick you up."
The doctor told me that the embryos will be safely preserved for 5, 10, or even longer. I didn't expect, more than a decade later I really came back" - Ms. V.A emotionally shared.
Returning day
In January 2025, Ms. V.A returned to the center. The archival records are still complete, the embryos are intact and of guaranteed quality. The moment she saw her name and the "lives" still intact, she could not help but be moved, both excited and nervous as if she was about to meet a child from a long time ago.
However, she still could not help but worry: 11 years have passed, are the embryos still safe? Does age and congenital hemorrhage make pregnancy a risk?

The doctor reassured me that the embryos are still fully usable and the quality is not affected. Hearing that made me feel completely relieved" - Ms. V.A recalled.
After being carefully consulted, Ms. V.A decided to start the embryo transfer. Results beyond expectations: right from the first transfer, she was successfully pregnant.
Throughout the pregnancy, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh - Director of the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital - directly monitored.
"We have successfully removed the embryos for storage for 11 years, defrosted them and transferred them to the mother's womb. Only one embryo was used and the results were as expected. This is a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of modern embryoscopy technology said Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh.
The moment after 11 years of waiting
On the morning of August 22, 2025, a healthy, rosy baby girl was born. In her arms, a peaceful smile blossomed on her face. Ms. V.A choked up: "Once upon a year... You have been waiting for us for too long. Thank you, thank you, thank you, the doctors!".
Currently, the National Reproduction Support Center is storing hundreds of thousands of embryos using advanced technology of international standards. The rate of raw embryos after defrostment is 99-100%. This opens up opportunities for many women, even in their old age, to become mothers using embryos preserved from youth.
The story of Ms. V.A's family is not only a medical achievement, but also a testament to the power of faith and love. After 11 years of waiting, a miracle has truly smiled.
