The patient is Mr. N.V.T (40 years old, from Thanh Hoa), a worker working at a pork processing factory. While cleaning the machine, due to negligence when the machine was still operating, the patient's left hand slipped into the grinding chamber. Although the power was turned off in time, the hand was still almost completely pulled across the body of the machine.
About 1 hour after the accident, the patient was taken to Military Hospital 175 in a state where his left hand was stuck tightly in the core of the machine, in severe pain, and the fingertips were crushed. Through examination and rapid assessment, the patient was diagnosed with crushed forearm in the left hand due to a work accident, the severity was very severe, with the risk of blood loss and infection if not promptly intervened.
Determining that this was a serious injury requiring emergency surgery, the on-duty team took the patient to the operating room immediately after admission. Because the hand was deeply swept away, the bones were broken, soft tissue crushed, and no longer recoverable, doctors were forced to remove the entire hand at the wrist level to remove the limb from the machine. The subsequent assessment showed that 1/3 of the middle of the forearms was heavily crushed, the muscles were necrotic, the bones were broken, and could not be preserved; the surgical team continued to cut off 1/3 of the upper left forearm, keeping the intact tissue for further treatment.
The post-operative care process progressed smoothly; the pinpoint was rosy, no signs of infection were recorded. After a few days of monitoring and on-site care, the patient was stitched the pinpoint.
BS.CKII Bui Van Phuc - Deputy Head of the Department of Chi Plastic Surgery, Military Hospital 175 - recommends that workers and people strictly comply with labor safety regulations, absolutely turn off machines and completely turn off power before cleaning or operating with industrial machinery. Raising safety awareness is a key factor to prevent unfortunate labor accidents that may occur.
