Patient escapes nighttime urination, difficulty urinating after 15 minutes of intervention

Ho Chi Minh City - Doctors at People's Hospital 115 apply a new method to help prostate patients recover quickly.

For many months in a row, two men, Nhat Thanh, 60 years old and Minh Tuan, 68 years old (names of both patients have been changed), had to live with frequent nighttime urination, weak urinary flow, and feeling that they could not urinate completely. These symptoms caused sleep disruption, body fatigue, and disrupted daily life. When the condition lasted, the patient went to People's Hospital 115 for examination.

Here, after being diagnosed with moderate prostate enlargement, both patients were advised by doctors on many treatment options. Instead of choosing traditional surgery, they decided to try thermal steam therapy (Rezum), a minimally invasive technique.

The results after intervention surprised the patient herself. Only 7 days after removing the urinary catheter, both urinated more easily, no longer feeling urinary retention or intermittent urination. Health stabilized, life gradually returned to normal. Notably, physiological function, the worry of many men when treating this disease, is still preserved.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Hoang Minh - Head of Urology - Kidney Transplant Department, People's Hospital 115, prostate hypertrophy is a common disease in older men, significantly affecting the quality of life. Symptoms such as nocturia, weak urination, and incomplete urination if not treated promptly can be prolonged and cause many troubles.

Regarding the Rezum method, the doctor said that this technique uses heat energy from steam to shrink the hypertrophic prostate tissue, thereby releasing pressure on the urethra. Thanks to this, patients significantly improved their difficulty urinating.

The advantage of the method is that the implementation time is fast, only about 10-15 minutes, less invasive, limits blood loss and almost no serious complications are recorded. Patients can be discharged within the day, shortening recovery time.

This is a new, modern method, a step forward in bringing a better quality of life to patients while still ensuring high safety," Assoc. Prof. Dr. BS. Truong Hoang Minh emphasized.
