Cho Ray Hospital deploys electronic medical records, patients and the health sector benefit

NGUYỄN LY |

On September 5, Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City officially deployed the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), an important milestone in the medical digital transformation journey.

Unlicensed hospital

BSCK2 Pham Thanh Viet - Deputy Director in charge of Management and Operation of Cho Ray Hospital - said that currently, the electronic medical records of Cho Ray Hospital have basically fully met the regulations and effectively served daily medical examination and treatment activities.

However, the hospital does not stop there but is implementing further plans to complete the system. In the immediate future, the hospital will coordinate with the software development unit to continue building new functions, utilities, and features, making the usage process simple, efficient, and minimizing errors.

In the long term, the hospital will expand the application of information technology to many other fields in addition to medical examination and treatment, including administration, administration, hospital management and logistics, with the goal of moving towards the "paperless hospital" model.

According to this orientation, all activities of Cho Ray Hospital will be operated on a software platform, meeting the requirements of Project 06 and becoming one of the model hospitals in medical digital transformation. In particular, the software is built not only to serve Cho Ray but also to the community, helping other hospitals to immediately deploy the electronic medical record system and accompanying software without having to edit or rebuild from scratch.

Dr. Nguyen Van Quan - Deputy Director, Department of Science, Technology and Training (Ministry of Health) - said that Cho Ray Hospital is responsible for health care for the Southern region, Southeast, Central Highlands and Cambodia. When Cho Ray Hospital deploys electronic medical records, lower-level units can apply. This is a breakthrough for the health sector.

EMR improves medical examination and treatment efficiency

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance - shared that Cho Ray Hospital is one of the hospitals that has implemented electronic medical records since the beginning. However, over time, this software gradually did not meet reality. This leads to many difficulties and inadequacies in health insurance payment.

In just the short time, the hospital has completed the electronic medical record and run smoothly, both fast and accurately, helping both the hospital and the social insurance agency. This implementation is also in line with the policy of the health sector. The Ho Chi Minh City Health Sector, after merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, can apply the model of Cho Ray Hospital, said a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance.

Dr. BSCK2 Nguyen Tri Thuc - Deputy Minister of Health - said that electronic medical records are not just technology and expertise but professional management, so it must also integrate related legal regulations, finance, emulation and rewards...

EMR will help digitize and connect medical data, reduce paperwork, improve medical examination and treatment efficiency, and bring maximum convenience to people, in line with the spirit of "going to every alley, knocking on every door, checking every person".
