On October 11, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that the unit had reported the death of a child patient at the hospital.

According to the hospital, patient Ph.L.B.N (born in 2024, in Xuan Binh commune, Thanh Hoa province) was admitted to the hospital at 014 on October 3 with phlegm, high fever, fatigue, poor appetite, vomiting and mild diarrhea.
After examination, the child was diagnosed with an unspecified sepsis and other disorders and was treated with antibiotics, IV fluids, antipyremia, and anti- Histamine.
On October 4, after consultation, the doctor ordered the antibiotic Cefopefast to be replaced with Meropenem. In the following days, the disease progressed well, the child's fever stopped, and he ate better, and was transferred to the regular treatment room by the morning of October 8.
At around 6am on October 10, the child was given Meropenem as prescribed by electrical pump, ending at 7am. After that, the child was given porridge by his family and played normally. However, at around 6:35 a.m., the child suddenly turned purple and coughed. The hospital organized emergency care, epidemic evacuation, airway opening, adrenalin injection, and endotracheal placement. During the emergency, the doctor discovered many outflowing porridge through the endotracheal tube.
Although he was actively resuscitated and had his heart beat again at times, the child was in a deep coma, his blood pressure could not be measured, his co was expanded to the maximum, and he did not reflect light. The patient was confirmed dead at 8:45 a.m. on October 10.
After the incident, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital coordinated with the authorities to work with the family. The family agreed to an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The incident is being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
