On the morning of May 16, Song Tu Tay island clinic received and rescued fisherman Tran Cong Liem (44 years old, residing in Quang Ngai province), a crew member of fishing vessel QNg 96678-TS captained by Mr. Mai Van Cuong.
According to information from fishermen on board, Mr. Liem has a history of bronchitis.
About 2 weeks ago, during daily activities, he fell and leaned his left hand against a hard floor, leading to pain in his left hand. After that, the patient self-massaged and saw the symptoms gradually decrease.

Mr. Liem works as a wire puller on a fishing boat. About 3 days ago, the patient developed moderate pain in his left arm and left shoulder but still worked for about 5 hours a day.
On May 15, when the ship was fishing about 5 nautical miles from Da Thi island in the Truong Sa archipelago, the patient's pain increased, accompanied by stiffness in the left arm and shoulder muscles on both sides, the body was very tired and difficult to lie down to rest, so he was taken to the island clinic for emergency treatment by fishermen.
Immediately after receiving information from the fishing boat, the medical team of Song Tu Tay Island Clinic quickly went to the wharf to receive the patient.
Through initial examination, the patient was awake, had good contact, pulse 79 beats/minute, blood pressure 155/95 mmHg, SpO2 95%, body temperature 36.9 degrees C.
Doctors recorded muscle stiffness next to the neck and shoulder spine on both sides, arm stiffness and left forearm stiffness; limited movement to lift the left arm due to muscle stiffness. Through examination, no sharp pain points were detected in the left arm and neck and shoulder area.
ECG results have not detected any abnormalities, and neck X-rays have not yet recorded any signs of abnormalities.
Doctors diagnosed the patient with muscle contractions near the cervical spine, shoulders on both sides and left arm, monitoring the cause due to exercise.
The patient is treated with intravenous fluids, electrolyte supplementation, muscle relaxants, pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs and close monitoring of the overall condition. Currently, doctors and nurses at the clinic continue to monitor health developments to have appropriate treatment directions.
