The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) has just issued a document requesting the Hai Phong City Department of Health to urgently investigate and handle the suspected case of food poisoning caused by methanol that occurred in the area, causing one person to die and many others to be hospitalized for emergency care.

According to report No. 592/BC-SYT dated December 19, 2025 of the Hai Phong City Department of Health, the incident occurred in Tu Minh ward. After a meal at Mr. Ca Ngoc Chung's family, many people showed unusual symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, shortness of breath and were quickly taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the incident resulted in one death.

Faced with the above serious developments, the Food Safety Department requested the Hai Phong City Department of Health to focus on directing hospitals that are treating patients to mobilize maximum resources to provide emergency care and actively treat poisoning cases, not to affect the health and lives of patients.

At the same time, the Department of Health is requested to closely coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade of Hai Phong city and relevant agencies to thoroughly trace the origin of alcohol products suspected of causing poisoning; urgently stop the circulation of all related products and strictly handle violations of food safety according to the law, if violations are detected.

The Food Safety Department also requires localities to strengthen inspection, examination and supervision of food safety for alcohol production and trading establishments, especially small-scale establishments and manual wine cooking establishments. Strict control aims to promptly prevent unsafe produced and mixed wines, wines of unknown origin, and unlabeled wines from circulating on the market, causing serious risks to the health of consumers.

In addition, the Hai Phong City Department of Health is required to strictly implement the directions of the Government and the Ministry of Health related to food poisoning prevention and control, including Directive No. 38/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister; Official Dispatch No. 2633/BYT-ATTP on strengthening food safety assurance, preventing fake and food poisoning; and Official Dispatch No. 7598/BYT-ATTP on ensuring safety of school foods and collective kitchens.
