The digital age makes our eyes work harder than ever. From phones, computers to TVs, each person spends an average of more than 10 hours a day in front of a screen-based device.
Eye strain, dry eyes and reduced vision have become common problems, especially in young people and office workers. The cause does not only come from blue light or working posture, but also from an unbalanced lifestyle and subjectivity in eye care.
To protect long-term vision, Dr. Vishal Arora, consultant ophthalmologist at Artemis Hospital, shares 10 daily habits to help maintain healthy eyes:
Eat a balanced diet: Supplement green vegetables, carrots, fish rich in omega-3 and fruit to help keep your eyes bright and healthy.
Drink enough water: Keep your eyes naturally moisturized, avoid dryness and irritation.
Follow the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes of looking at a screen, look at something 6m (20 feet) away for 20 seconds.
Wear sunglasses: Protect your eyes from UV rays when going out.
Do not rub your eyes: Avoid bacteria, dirt that cause inflammation or corneal scratches.
Regular eye check-ups: Early detection of diseases such as cataracts, hyperopia.
See the screen properly: Maintain appropriate brightness, use a blue light filter and keep a safe distance.
Quit smoking: Smoking is seriously harmful to the optic nerve and yellow spot.
Get enough sleep: Helps the eyes recover, maintain moisture and avoid eye strain.
Exercise regularly: Improve blood circulation, reduce the risk of eye diseases caused by diabetes.
According to Dr. Arora, good eyesight is not only a genetic factor but also depends on living habits. Every small action such as winking regularly, taking a break from work in front of a screen or checking your eyes regularly helps prolong the life of your eyes.
