Banning new generation cigarettes is an important decision of Vietnam

Hương Giang |

The National Assembly agreed to ban e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, gases, and addictive substances that are harmful to human health from 2025.

A victory for public health

Reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) and many other international studies have also confirmed that, although e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products are advertised as "substitutes" for traditional cigarettes, the truth is the opposite. Using them still carries the risk of nicotine addiction and leads to serious health problems.

The decision by the Vietnamese National Assembly to ban e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products is considered a major victory in the fight against tobacco harm. This is a strong step to prevent the spread of these products, protect public health and reduce the burden on the health system.

A lung specialist at Bach Mai Hospital shared that this decision is very correct and timely. In fact, e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products have been causing many concerns about public health, especially for young people. Banning these products not only helps protect users but also contributes to creating a healthier environment for the community.

In addition, banning e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products is also an effective strategy for Vietnam to fulfill its commitment to reduce tobacco harm under the National Tobacco Harm Prevention Program, while protecting people's health from potential risks from these addictive products.

The joy of community organizations

The National Assembly's decision received strong support from health organizations, social organizations and the community. Ms. Nguyen Thi An, Director of HealthBridge Canada in Vietnam, said: "We welcome the National Assembly's decision, as this is an important step forward in protecting the health of the Vietnamese people, especially the younger generation."

According to Ms. An, banning e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products not only helps reduce the risk of dangerous diseases but also raises public awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also encourages countries to take similar precautions to protect public health, as the unregulated development of tobacco alternatives will lead to unpredictable health consequences in the future.

Many people, especially parents, were also happy with this decision. Ms. Hai Yen, a parent in Hanoi, shared that she was very happy to hear this news.

My children are just entering their teens, and I am always worried about the negative impact e-cigarette products may have on their health. Banning these products is essential, for the future of the young generation must be protected.

Although the decision to ban e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products has been passed, monitoring and enforcement remains a significant challenge.
