The Department of Disease Prevention, Ministry of Health has just sent a document to the Departments of Health of provinces and centrally-run cities on warning that injectable drugs for prevention treatment before exposure to HIV with the commercial name YEZTUGO have not been licensed for circulation in Vietnam.
The Department of Disease Prevention said it has recorded information in the mass media about the detection of cases of advertising and using pre-exposure prophylactic injections for HIV (PrEP) suspected of being fake, with the trade name YEZTUGO (lenacapavir) through social networking platforms.
The above-mentioned product has not been licensed and circulated in Vietnam by the Ministry of Health, and is of unknown origin, posing a serious risk to the health of users.
To ensure safety for people and strengthen the management of activities related to pre-exposure prophylactic drugs with HIV, the Department of Disease Prevention requests Departments of Health of provinces and cities to implement a number of contents such as urgently reviewing and inspecting medical examination and treatment facilities, pharmaceutical business establishments in the area to detect and promptly handle the trading and use of pre-exposure prophylactic drugs with HIV of unknown origin, not licensed for circulation;
Strengthen communication and warning to people and medical facilities about the risk of using fake and unlicensed drugs;
Direct medical facilities in the area to strictly implement regulations on prescribing and using prevention drugs before exposure to HIV; ensure that only drugs that have been licensed for circulation by the Ministry of Health and have clear origins are used.
The prescription, indication and monitoring of treatment must strictly comply with Decision No. 5968/QD-BYT dated December 31, 2021 of the Minister of Health on issuing guidelines for HIV/AIDS treatment and care and related documents.

Regarding this incident, previously, the Drug Administration of Vietnam - Ministry of Health at the end of March 2026 also sent a document to the Departments of Health of provinces and cities on warning of fake drugs and drugs circulating illegally on the market for YEZTUGO injectable drugs.
According to the Drug Administration of Vietnam, through searching for information on public services at the website https://dichvucong. dav. gov. vn/congbothuoc/index, the Drug Administration of Vietnam has not issued a circulation registration certificate for products with the above name and/or production facilities named YEZTUGO (lenacapavir) injection 463.5g/1.5mL (309mg/mL) that do not have drugs licensed for circulation in Vietnam.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam also requested the Departments of Health of provinces and cities to notify drug businesses and users and people so that they are not allowed to buy/sell or use this product; promptly notify suspicious signs of production and trading of fake drugs and drugs of unknown origin to health agencies and relevant functional agencies.
