According to information from Vinh Long Provincial Social Insurance, in the first quarter of 2026, the whole province recorded over 1.742 million health insurance medical examination and treatment visits, down 3.14%, equivalent to a decrease of 56,574 visits compared to the same period in 2025. However, total health insurance medical examination and treatment costs increased sharply by more than 152 billion VND.
Accordingly, total health insurance medical examination and treatment expenditure in the first 3 months of the year reached more than 898 billion VND, an increase of about 20.38% compared to the same period last year. By the end of March 2026, medical examination and treatment facilities had used about 26.8% of the total annual estimate of 3,352 billion VND.
According to leaders of the Provincial Social Insurance, the coordination between the Social Insurance sector and the Department of Health in the past time has been maintained closely to ensure the rights of health insurance participants. The effective management and use of the health insurance fund is also always focused on by the two units.
Mr. Pham Minh Duong - Director of Vinh Long Provincial Social Insurance - said that the social insurance sector regularly coordinates with the health sector in the work of appraisal and control of medical examination and treatment costs. Thereby, contributing to the transparent, fair and regulated use of the health insurance fund.
Mr. Pham Minh Duong requested medical facilities to continue to improve professional quality, use medicines and medical supplies reasonably and safely. At the same time, strengthen coordination with social insurance agencies in appraisal and cost control to prevent abuse and profiteering from the health insurance fund.
According to leaders of Vinh Long Provincial Department of Health, medical examination and treatment facilities need to continue to strengthen supervision and analysis of health insurance costs by unit and by month to promptly detect abnormal errors and limit wastefulness in the use of the fund.
In addition, the health sector also requests units to continue to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment, accompany social insurance agencies in people's health care, and at the same time control costs well to use health insurance funds effectively.
