On September 14, leaders of Cu Jut Commune People's Committee (Lam Dong) informed that a case of 2 children being bitten by rabid dogs had just occurred in hamlet 5, Cu Jut commune.
Accordingly, at about 3 pm on September 11, a 12kg dog of Mr. T.C. K's family (residing in hamlet 5, Cu Jut commune) ran around the residential area and attacked pets of some households.
After that, the dog ran into a resident's house and attacked B.M. T (7 years old) and C.T. L (11 years old). T was seriously injured in the left cheek area; L was injured in the right hypochondrium and right forearm.
After the incident occurred, relatives took the 2 children to a medical facility to treat the injuries and vaccinate against rabies.
Upon receiving the news, the security force of Cu Jut commune organized to encircle and destroy the dog. The specimen was then taken by the health sector for testing, and the results determined that the dog was positive for the rabies virus.
Cu Jut Regional Health Center has coordinated with relevant units to investigate and monitor epidemics in cases of dog bites and implement rabies prevention and control measures.
The health sector also guides localities to review cases at risk of exposure, advise people to get rabies vaccine; isolate and strictly monitor pets attacked by rabid dogs for 14 days.
Functional forces also sprayed chemicals to disinfect the environment at Mr. T.C. K's house and neighboring households; and destroyed the rabid dog.
According to the Cu Jut Regional Health Center, the number of people at risk of rabies virus exposure may continue to increase because most dogs raised in hamlet 5, Cu Jut commune have not been vaccinated against rabies.
