On September 7, the Department of Health of Dak Lak province informed that, related to the case of a dog suspected of having rabies attacking 4 people in Binh Kien ward a few days ago, the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Station II announced the test results of the specimen sample.
Accordingly, the specimen from the suspected rabid dog tested positive for the rabies virus.
Previously, on September 3, a yellow-haired dog of Ms. D. T. M's household (in Phu An residential group, Binh Kien ward) showed many abnormal signs, suspected of having rabies and attacked people.
Through investigation, the health sector recorded 4 cases of being bitten by the family's dog. Among these, 3 people have been fully vaccinated with 3 doses of rabies vaccine.
The remaining case was bitten by a dog on August 25 but has not been vaccinated against rabies and has not been treated immediately after being bitten.
After grasping the information, medical staff went to this person's house to persuade him to go to a medical facility to treat the wound and get rabies vaccination on the same day.
The dog was then beaten to death. The specialized agency took specimens and sent them to the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Station II for testing.
The remaining corpse was destroyed according to regulations; the surrounding area was also sprayed with chemicals for disinfection and sterilization to limit the risk of spreading pathogens.
