On August 28, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee proposed a plan to prevent and control rabies in the province, for the period 2026-2030.
According to statistics from the health sector, the rabies situation is still complicated. The whole province recorded 41 deaths (from 2022-2025) due to rabies, of which 17 cases were children under 15 years old, showing that this is a group of subjects that need to be prioritized for protection in the coming time.
In addition, the management of dogs and cats and rabies vaccination still have difficulties and limitations; the vaccination rate has not reached the necessary level to create population immunity.
A part of the population is still subjective in managing and raising dogs and cats; the declaration and handling when bitten or scratched by dogs and cats and access to prophylactic treatment after exposure in some areas are still not timely.
To prevent and control rabies, limit the risk of affecting people's health and safety, the province requires raising the rabies vaccination rate.
The goal is to manage over 90% of households and dogs and cats; vaccination against rabies for dogs and cats to reach at least 80% of the total herd in the period 2026-2030.
100% of communes and wards implement risk communication, raise awareness about rabies in the community and schools; 100% of people bitten or scratched by dogs, cats or mammals at risk of exposure are consulted, treated and treated for prevention according to regulations.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Health to consolidate the preventive treatment network, ensure vaccines and rabies serum; organize epidemiological surveillance and investigation and deploy related tasks.
