Hair loss, thinning hair or scalp with a lot of dandruff can make you lose confidence and tea tree oil is being mentioned as a natural solution to help improve this condition.
According to Dr. Karuna Malhotra - dermatologist and cosmetic expert in India, tea tree oil does not directly stimulate hair growth like specialized drugs, but plays an important role in creating a healthy scalp environment, which is necessary for hair to grow well.
Thai oil helps clean hair follicles that are clogged with excess oil, dead cells and product residue. When hair follicles are clear, hair can grow more freely and healthily," Dr. Malhotra shared.
How tea tree oil helps hair growth:
Cleaning and antibacterial:
This essential oil has antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce scalp inflammation and fight Malassezia fungus, a common cause of dandruff.
A study published in Current Cosmetic Science shows that shampoos containing tea tree oil can significantly reduce dandruff, thereby reducing itching, peeling and the risk of scalp inflammation, factors that affect hair growth.
Improve blood circulation:
Massaging the diluted tea tree oil into the scalp helps stimulate blood circulation. A well-nourished hair follicle works more effectively, giving you thick, shiny, and strong hair, says Dr. Malhotra.
Strengthen hair roots:
By soothing the scalp and preventing inflammation, tea tree oil helps strengthen hair roots, thereby reducing hair loss caused by fungus or inflammation.
Increase the effectiveness of hair growth drugs:
A study published in the Journal of Drug Design, Development and Therapy found that combining tea tree oil with minoxidil (a hair growth stimulant) helps increase the effectiveness of using only simple minoxidil.
How to use it safely:
Always dilute before use: Mix 2 - 3 drops of tea tree oil with 2 tablespoons of carrier oil such as coconut oil (for dry scalp), jojoba oil (for oily scalp) or almond oil (for normal hair).
Gently massage into scalp, leave on for 30 - 60 minutes and then rinse.
You can add a few drops to your regular shampoo or conditioner.
Who should be careful?
People with sensitive scalps, eczema or allergies to eczema and sim should avoid using them.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women can use it but need to consult a doctor.
