According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC), in week 46 (November 10 - 16), the city recorded 2,105 cases of dengue fever. The total number of dengue fever cases accumulated from the beginning of 2025 to week 46 is 54,828 cases. Areas with a high incidence rate of cases over 100,000 people include Bac Tan Uyen, Bau Bang and Can Gio.
Recently, Vung Tau General Hospital (Vung Tau Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) has successfully treated patient N.N.V.A (19 years old, Vung Tau Ward) with severe dengue fever, with a particularly critical course, causing 3 consecutive shocks within more than 24 hours.
The patient was supported with respiratory support by mechanical ventilation, calcium compensation, adjustment of electrolyte disorders and continuous blood monitoring... Thanks to active and timely intervention, the patient overcame critical condition and vital signs were stable. The patient's health has recovered and he has been discharged from the hospital.
HCDC says dengue fever can cause serious complications, even death, especially during the fever reduction stage - when patients are easily subjective. Early identification of warning signs and timely hospitalization are decisive actions to protect patients.
The disease is transmitted mainly through Aedes mosquitoes, which are prone to flare-up in hot and humid conditions. The disease started after 3 - 14 days of incubation with symptoms of high fever of 40 degrees Celsius, headache, sharp pain, nausea, muscle and joint pain and blood vessels under the skin.
The critical stage often appears on the 3rd - 7th day of the disease, when the patient's fever begins to subside but is more tired. Warning signs that need to be hospitalized immediately include: lethargy, cracking, abdominal pain, vomiting a lot, unusual bleeding, cold hands and feet; in children, it is impossible to breastfeed, not eating, fatigue even though the fever has gone away.
HCDC recommends that there is currently no specific medicine to treat dengue fever, patients should rest, drink plenty of water, take paracetamol according to the doctor's instructions and not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen due to the risk of bleeding. People infected with the virus can infect others through mosquitoes within 5 - 12 days after being injected with a mosquito carrying the virus.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City is conducting a multinational, multi-center clinical trial for the dengue fever vaccine developed by MSD ( Merck & Co., USA).
The project is called Mobilize-1, implemented in 6 Southeast Asian countries with 12,000 participants, of which Vietnam has 4,000 people - including children from 2 to 16 years old and adolescents aged 16-17. This international-scale clinical trial is an important step for Vietnam to contribute to global efforts to control dengue fever.
