On December 18, Thien An Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital (Hanoi) officially announced that it had welcomed the first "US-HIFU baby" in Vietnam.

This is a boy, son of the mother Pham Thi Huyen Trang (30 years old, from Ninh Binh) who had multiple uterine fibroids and was treated with US-HIFU technique - the treatment method of tumors with high-intensity ultrasound waves under the guidance of ultrasound.

Before becoming pregnant, Ms. Trang was diagnosed with multiple uterine fibroids: uterine fibroids in fruit: 48x43x59 mm, uterine fibroids in the back: 37x33x42 mm, which is one of the reasons why she had to have a 20-week miscarriage.

The treatment was performed in November 2024 by Professor Nguyen Viet Tien (Standing Vice Chairman of the National Medical Council, Chairman of the Vietnam Obstetrics and Gynecology Association) and his team.

After three months of treatment, she became pregnant naturally without any assisted reproductive methods. During pregnancy, the fetus develops completely normally while the uterine fibroid tumor continues to shrink.

On the morning of November 26, Ms. Trang had a healthy baby boy born in the 38th week of pregnancy, weighing 3.4 kg, opening up hope to become a mother for many women who have faced the risk of infertility due to gynecological diseases such as uterine fibroids and endometriosis.

Holding her child in her hand, Ms. Trang said she was extremely moved when looking back on her stressful and stressful pregnancy journey.

Professor Nguyen Viet Tien - the pioneer in bringing US-HIFU technology to Vietnam said that the birth of the first US-HIFU baby in Vietnam is a clear demonstration of the safety and effectiveness of the US-HIFU method.

US-HIFU operates based on the principle of congestion of ultrasound waves into bio- tissue, leading to an immediate increase in temperature of up to 65-100 degrees Celsius in target tissue within 1 second, thereby causing protein bienption and irreversible winteriodulation.

The target tissue is "dead" and the tumor will self-decompose over time. The most outstanding feature of US-HIFU is its ability to destroy target tissue without affecting surrounding healthy tissue.

At this event, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen emphasized that researching and applying non-invasive, safe and effective treatment methods, aiming to improve the quality of life of patients is always one of the important orientations of the health sector.

US-HIFU technology is one of the techniques that clearly demonstrates this orientation, providing a treatment solution for non-invasive tumors with clear treatment effectiveness for patients.

According to Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen, this is not only an event of special significance for the implementation unit, but also a remarkable milestone for the obstetrics and gynecology industry in particular and the Vietnamese health sector in general.

After more than a year of implementation, with more than 400 cases of safe and effective treatment, no complications recorded, along with 8 cases of pregnancy after treatment and especially the birth of the first US-HIFU baby in Vietnam, it can be affirmed that these are very encouraging initial results.

Today's event is not only meaningful in terms of expertise, but also has profound humanistic value. That is the happiness of a family, the result of trust between patients and the medical team, and also opens up new hope for many women who want to become mothers naturally and safely, the Deputy Minister of Health emphasized.

In addition, the Ministry of Health always encourages medical facilities and leading experts to research and apply new techniques, in parallel with ensuring professional ethics, patient safety and real treatment effectiveness.
