Currently, with a large number of patients flocking to end-line hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, meeting the need for medical examination and treatment is a big challenge for specialized facilities such as Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital, Binh Dan Hospital...
To ease pressure and reduce the burden of disease, general hospitals in the city have increased updating and applying advanced treatment methods, attracting more and more patients.
Regarding the issue of reducing the load on specialized hospitals and treating injuries around joints, a representative of Military Hospital 175 said that in 2019, the 175 Orthopedic Trauma Institute was established with a capacity of 500 beds. After 5 years of operation, the annual patient admission rate has increased steadily by 20-30%. By 2023, the number of admitted patients increased by nearly 300% compared to 2019, reaching nearly 6,000 patients, many of whom came from neighboring provinces for treatment.
Among them, periarticular injuries, especially hip injuries, are complex injuries that require high expertise in the field of orthopedic trauma. Doctors need to constantly improve their techniques, skills and conduct in-depth research to optimize the treatment process, helping patients recover their motor functions.
According to Dr. Bui Van Phuc - Department of Upper Limb Surgery, Institute of Trauma and Orthopedics, modern conservative techniques such as bone fusion and minimally invasive instruments are prioritized to restore function of damaged joints. For complex injuries or serious sequelae, major surgeries such as joint replacement, bone resection, or axis correction are necessary.
He emphasized that joint surgery is often very complicated, requiring high precision, multidisciplinary coordination, and the support of modern technology such as diagnostic imaging and physical therapy. The goal is to perfect the joint structure, improve the patient's quality of life and ability to work.
Thanks to medical advances, Ho Chi Minh City has made great strides in reducing the burden of disease for people with injuries around the joints.
