Relapsed gout for the 2nd time at the age of 33.
Gout is often considered a disease of middle age, but in recent years there has been a clear trend of rejuvenation. The main causes are related to unhealthy lifestyles, unbalanced diets and lack of exercise.
At Thanh Nhan Hospital (Hanoi), a typical case is a 33-year-old male patient, residing in Tuong Mai ward, being treated for a second recurrence of gout with severe severity. The left knee joint was severely inflamed, forcing doctors to puncture and suction about 70 ml of joint fluid.

The patient said that after experiencing knee joint pain and difficulty walking, she went to the hospital for examination and treatment. The diagnostic results determined that she had acute gout accompanied by dyslipidemia.
According to shares, the characteristics of office work requiring long sitting, little exercise, and the habit of regularly using alcohol and protein-rich foods in socializing sessions have caused risk factors to accumulate, causing the disease to recur.

“Previously, I was quite subjective, did not eat strictly and rarely went for periodic check-ups. Only when the pain became too much to bear did I realize that I had maintained a lifestyle that was too unscientific,” the male patient confided.
After this treatment, the male patient had to set a goal to completely change his daily menu, prioritizing green vegetables and exercising regularly to protect his long-term health.
Dangers from self-medicating pain relievers
According to MSc.BS Tran Quoc Khanh - Department of Musculoskeletal, Thanh Nhan Hospital, the case of this 33-year-old male patient is just one of many young gout patients being treated here.
Dr. Khanh said that the trend of gout rejuvenation is closely related to unhealthy lifestyles, especially the abuse of fast food and alcohol. Many young people regularly use convenient foods, excess energy while exercising little. This prolonged condition easily causes metabolic disorders, causing gout to appear early.

Doctors also warn about the abuse of pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs in gout patients. "Excessive use of paracetamol can cause liver failure, while other groups of anti-inflammatory drugs easily damage the digestive, cardiovascular and kidney systems. In fact, the hospital has received many cases admitted to the hospital in a state of severe liver and kidney failure due to self-medication in excess," MSc. Dr. Tran Quoc Khanh analyzed.
To limit risks, doctors recommend that patients need to have regular check-ups and use medication as prescribed, avoiding self-medication or drug abuse.
