Fenugreek seeds are small, bright yellow seeds that are packed with nutrients. These include calcium, copper, potassium, iron, folic acid, riboflavin, and vitamins like A, C, K, and B6.
Nutritionist Avni Kaul (India) said that fenugreek can help reduce total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the body. Fenugreek is used in many different forms, such as powdered leaves, seed extract or seed powder.
Additionally, fenugreek can increase the number of cholesterol receptors present in the liver, thereby helping cells remove cholesterol from the blood and improve lipid levels, adds Avni Kaul.
Soak a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water overnight. Boil the water until the mixture is reduced to half, strain the seeds and drink it on an empty stomach to help reduce bad cholesterol, says Dr. Dimple Jangda, MD, India.
