When tangerine peel is dried, tangerine peel becomes tangerine peel, a familiar ingredient in cuisine and traditional medicine. Some pharmacological studies record that tangerine peel contains essential oils, hesperidin, flavonoids, nobiletin and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, zinc; these ingredients are studied for many biological properties, including blood pressure-related effects.
Flavonoids in tangerine peel are also a group of compounds that are of interest in cardiovascular health research. These are natural substances present in many fruits and vegetables, often studied for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the fact that a food contains flavonoids does not mean it can replace antihypertensive drugs.
Discussing foods that can support blood pressure control, Dr. Nhiep Thanh, Head of the Department of Endocrinology, Guanyinmen Hospital under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, said that a diet can contribute to supporting blood pressure control and needs to be built comprehensively, instead of just relying on one type of food.
A particularly important factor is the amount of salt in the diet. Dr. Liu Jian, Head of Cardiology Department, Peking University People's Hospital, and also an expert from the China National General Health Specialist Database, recommends that people with high blood pressure pay attention to supplementing with foods rich in potassium and reducing sodium. The amount of salt should be controlled at no more than 5 g/day; green vegetables, fruits and some cereals can help increase the amount of potassium in the diet.
This also explains why blood pressure control should not only focus on one type of fruit peel. When eating and drinking, people with high blood pressure should prioritize green vegetables, fruits, whole grains and foods rich in potassium, magnesium, and fiber; and limit foods high in salt, fat and sugar.
In addition, Dr. Chau Dong, Cardiology Specialist, Beijing Hospital, emphasized that lifestyle changes are an important part of blood pressure control. Measures include adjusting diet, increasing exercise, controlling weight, reducing stress, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol.
With trần bì, people can use it in appropriate amounts in some dishes or drinks. However, do not arbitrarily use it for treatment purposes. A trần bì expert also noted that this ingredient is warm and not suitable for everyone; regular use needs to consider physical condition and purpose of use.
In particular, you should not dry tangerine peels yourself and then use them if you do not ensure hygiene conditions and raw materials. Fruit peels may contain pesticide residues or mold during storage. If you want to use tangerine peels regularly, you should choose products with clear origins.
Tangerine peel can therefore be considered an additional ingredient in the diet, instead of a "medicine" to lower blood pressure. For people undergoing hypertension treatment, it is still important to reduce salt, maintain a reasonable weight, exercise regularly, monitor blood pressure and use medication as prescribed.
