On October 18, the People's Committee of Kim Ngan commune (Quang Tri province) announced that it had drawn up a record of administrative violations in the field of food safety against Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, where 40 students had to be hospitalized after breakfast, causing a stir in public opinion.
According to test results from the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang, 1 of the 4 food samples sent were positive for Bacillus cereus bacteria, a common cause of acute food poisoning.
The leader of Kim Ngan commune added that Ms. Do Thi Hong Hue - Vice Principal of the school, who is directly in charge of boarding work, will expire the 15-day temporary suspension on October 22.
Currently, specialized agencies are continuing to evaluate the entire process of importing, preserving and processing food at the school, and at the same time requesting the school to closely monitor the organization of boarding meals for students.
Local leaders emphasized that the current goal is to stabilize the psychology of students and parents, ensure the quality of learning after the incident, and not let students have to take any extra classes for reasons related to this incident.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, on the morning of September 26, after breakfast at school, 40 students showed symptoms of nausea and abdominal pain and were taken to the emergency room. Up to now, their health has stabilized.
The Pasteur Nha Trang Institute concluded: of the 4 tested food samples, 1 was positive for Bacillus cereus bacteria, a type of bacteria that often exists in soil, dust, and water, which can cause poisoning when cooked food is left at room temperature for a long time.
