Herbal tea helps reduce inflammation and indigestion
Herbal teas are made from hot water combined with herbs, flowers or other plants. Dr. Aviv Joshua, MS, RDN at the US Nutrition Center, commented: "Ginger contains gingerol and shogaol compounds that help reduce inflammation in the digestive tract, while soothing the stomach, reducing nausea and bloating. Peppermint can relieve stomach pain and swelling, especially for people with irritable bowel syndrome.
Ginger tea and peppermint tea both have anti-inflammatory and digestive-improving effects thanks to their ability to stimulate emptying of the stomach, reducing discomfort and bloating. In addition, ginger tea can also reduce symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Increase bowel movements and protect mucous membranes
Dandelion tea, dragon fruit root or fennel tea help mobilize the intestines and reduce the risk of constipation. Drinking herbal tea can help increase the production of stomach mucus, thereby reducing the risk of ulcers. Dr. Joshua explains: "The enzymes and plant compounds in herbal tea promote digestion, improve bowel movements and protect the digestive tract lining, while enhancing immune function."
Some teas, such as senna leaf tea, have a strong laxative effect but should not be consumed daily but should follow a doctor's instructions. Fennel tea also helps increase the frequency of bowel movements and reduce constipation thanks to the smooth muscle contraction mechanism in the colon.
Notes when using herbal tea
Although safe for most adults, caution is needed for pregnant women, women breastfeeding or women taking medication. Some herbs can reduce the effectiveness of the drug or cause side effects. Dr. Joshua recommends: "Before starting a new herbal tea regimen, talk to your doctor or pharmacist to ensure safety and avoid drug interactions."
In addition to drinking tea, maintaining a diet rich in fiber, drinking enough water and controlling stress is also very important to support digestion and balance intestinal microorganisms.
