Located at the eastern gateway - a densely populated area, many industrial parks and a vital traffic axis, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital plays the role of "the first stop" in receiving emergency care. Reality shows that many cases of multiple injuries, stroke, myocardial infarction, and respiratory failure have been successfully treated on the spot, instead of having to be transferred to higher levels as before.
Data shows a positive change when from 135 cases transferred to hospitals before, in 2025 there were only 30 cases left. Notably, the transferred cases have all been handled stably initially, ensuring safety before continuing intensive treatment.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the effectiveness of the model has been demonstrated through many typical cases. A young man who suffered a traffic accident, multiple severe injuries, shock and respiratory failure was saved thanks to inter-specialized coordination. Similarly, a case of workplace accident with liver rupture, lung contusion, multiple rib fractures was also successfully operated on and resuscitated right at the hospital.
The highlight is the "Trauma Emergency Center" model at the Emergency Department, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital integrating the process of treating multiple injuries and the internal red alert mechanism. Patients are received, diagnosed, consulted and intervened on the spot, without having to move through many stages as before.
This approach helps shorten the "golden time", mobilize synchronously many specialties, thereby improving treatment efficiency and reducing the risk of sequelae. This is considered a suitable direction in the strategy of reorganizing the Ho Chi Minh City health system according to the "multi-layer - multi-polar - multi-center" model.
In the coming time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health will continue to support Thu Duc Regional General Hospital to develop commensurate with its role as a gateway hospital, aiming to become a modern emergency center.
