Overusing sugar consumption not only causes the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes but also affects energy levels and the immune system, according to IndianExpress.
Recently, health experts have warned that consuming too much sugar can also be associated with back pain, one of the most common health problems today.
According to bone and joint suction surgeon, Dr. Jeff Winternheimer (USA), a diet high in sugar causes weight gain and obesity, thereby putting greater pressure on the spine and aggravating back pain.
High sugar intake is associated with chronic inflammation, which can make pain and discomfort worse, Winternheimer stressed. At the same time, type 2 diabetes is a common complication of a high-sugar diet, which can cause nerve damage, leading to persistent back pain".
Not only that, a diet rich in sugar often lacks the nutrients needed to maintain strong muscles and bones.
This can lead to weak spinal support, increasing the risk of back pain or prolonging recovery in people who already have bone and joint problems.
However, experts also note that the link between the road and back pain is not direct.
Eating a lot of sugar does not directly cause back pain, but it contributes to conditions such as inflammation, obesity and diabetes, all of which can aggravate spinal diseases, says Dr Rajat Mahajan, senior consultant at the Indian Spine Trauma Center.
Sharing the same view, Dr. Anup Khatri (Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai) affirmed that inflammation caused by consuming too much sugar can lead to joint pain and chronic back pain
Excess weight, especially in the abdominal area, puts a lot of pressure on the spine and causes back strain, thereby increasing the risk of prolonged back pain, Mr. Khatri explained.
In addition, a diet high in sugar also negatively affects muscles and joints, making tissues around the spine more susceptible to damage.
To prevent this, doctors recommend maintaining healthy eating habits, reducing consumption of sugary foods and drinks, and supplementing essential nutrients for the skeletal system.
Regular physical activity also plays an important role. According to Dr. Mahajan, exercises such as swimming, jogging, cycling or weight training can stimulate the body to produce endorphins, which are natural painkillers and anti-inflammatory intermediates, thereby helping to reduce back pain and improve overall health.
Although there is no evidence to confirm that sugar directly causes back pain, it is clear that consuming too many of these foods is indirectly increasing the risk and severity of the disease.
Therefore, controlling sugar in the diet not only helps prevent diabetes and obesity, but can also be an important key to protecting the spine and reducing the obsession with back pain for millions of people.
