Most notably, the film "The Sea of the Sea: Black Tales Returns" (director Luong Dinh Dung) has just announced that it will stop showing after 9 days with a revenue of only over 2 billion VND. Released on September 26, the horror film has not created attraction with audiences.
Despite careful investment in the setting, "The Corps Hill" still could not escape defeat due to negative reactions from viewers.
In the same situation, the film "The Supply House: Can Play and Can bear" (played by Cat Phuong) became a box office shock with only 153 million VND after its release. The film was criticized for being "ugly", forced content, and awkward acting. In addition, the conflict between Cat Phuong and director Hoang Anh Duy made the work even more noisy, the producer even claimed to ask for legal intervention.
Meanwhile, "Doi chi mo di" - an independent project about the elderly pursuing the dream of a tattoo artist - only earned 309 million VND after the screening time. Despite its humane message, the film is considered long-running, slow-paced and lacking in climax, making it difficult for young audiences to sympathize.
Another case is Closing the don!, a film using AI technology to replace Miss Thuy Tien, earning 5.1 billion VND before leaving the theater. Although it attracted attention for its technological elements, the film was criticized for being "fake, lifeless" and bland content.
These consecutive failures show a large gap between creative expectations and popular tastes. When the audience is increasingly strict, only strange ideas or modern technology are not enough, what they need is still a good story, real emotions and professional quality. 2025 is therefore a warning for Vietnamese filmmakers: the audience is willing to support the new, but it is never easy to count the bad.
