A woman pregnant for the third time, raising two young children, was chased away by her husband and her husband's family during pregnancy. When she arrived at Hung Vuong Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, she was in a state of labor without pregnancy monitoring.
Dr. Pham Quoc Hung, Head of the Department of Social Work - Hung Vuong Hospital (HCMC) recalled: "We support the woman in giving birth and take care of her accommodation. All four mother and child have been transferred to a social center to have a place to support, learn a trade, and the children can go to school". That moment is not only a physical salvation, but also a respectful heart, united to protect the silent heroes.
The heartbreaking situation is that the "one-stop" model at Hung Vuong Hospital still recorded many unsafe abortions: an 18-year-old girl had a perforated uterus and intestines after failed a miscarriage; an 11-year-old girl was 13 weeks pregnant due to abuse, had to suspend the pregnancy with medicine and needed deep psychological support...
Since 2023, the "one-stop" model at Hung Vuong Hospital has been initiated with technical support from UN Women, PE&D and many international organizations. The victim only needs to share once, and the interdisciplinary agencies will coordinate to provide medical support, psychological and legal advice, and temporary residence when needed. After two years, 992 children under 16 years old are pregnant, of which 224 cases of violence and abuse are directly supported, 194 of which are children who have given birth.
Doctor Hung shared: Most of them are minors, some of whom are just 11 years old and are pregnant. The reasons are lack of gender education, lack of correct orientation from the family, and false information on social networks. Many "mental guards" are just 16-17 year old boys, not realizing that their actions are a violation of the law".
Not only stopping at Hung Vuong, the model has been replicated in three other hospitals: Children's Hospital 1, Children's Hospital of the City, and the Trauma - Orthopedic Hospital, serving different groups of subjects such as children, pregnant women, and people who have been abused and injured.
