For more than 10 days now, Mr. Nguyen Minh Han (born in 2000, residing in Hamlet 4, Cai Nhum Commune) has been hospitalized at Can Tho Central General Hospital, Vinh Long General Hospital for severe meningitis with complications, suspected to be a stroke.
Mr. Han is the only main breadwinner in a poor family with no land. He lived with his nearly 60-year-old mother and two young grandchildren who had been abandoned by their mother since birth.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai (58 years old) - Mr. Han's mother - choked up as she said that before being admitted to the hospital, he had signs of headache and dizziness. However, due to difficult family circumstances, Mr. Han only bought medicine to take to get over the attack.
According to Mrs. Mai, Mr. Han dropped out of school early to take care of her abandoned grandmother and two young grandchildren. Now lying in one place due to serious illness and no health insurance, the cost of treatment is too much for the family.
"On July 9, Han said he had a headache but was still working for hire, and when he returned home, he suddenly fainted. Many people in the village took him to the hospital, but they didn't have 500,000 VND in their homes," said Ms. Mai.
Sharing about the family situation, Ms. Hoa - a neighbor - said that everyone in the neighborhood loves Mr. Han because he is gentle, hard-working, knows how to take care of his family, and does not drink sugar or gamble.
"Each of us contributed a little, but our family could only help 500 thousand because they were also poor. I hope that there will be strong soldiers to help Han overcome the danger," Ms. Hoa added.
Talking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Van Liem - Deputy People's Committee of Hamlet 4, Cai Nhum Commune - confirmed that Mr. Nguyen Minh Han's family situation is in a particularly difficult situation in the locality.
According to Mr. Liem, Mr. Han does not have a stable job, so he hires anyone to do anything to take care of his elderly mother and two young children in primary and secondary school. Now he is seriously ill and has to be hospitalized for a long time, the cost of treatment is beyond the family's ability.
"Given Mr. Han's difficult circumstances, the local government has reviewed initial support, prioritized practical gifts and continued to strongly call on donors to help Han's family have conditions to treat his illness," Mr. Liem added.
