According to Dr. Kunal Sood, Medical Director at National Spine & pain Centers (Maryland, USA), we spend hours every day sitting from desks to sofas, from surfing to meetings, but few people know that this seemingly harmless habit is silently accelerating the aging process.
Sitting for long periods of time, especially in the wrong position, puts pressure not only on the spine but also affects the rate of biological aging of the body.
Sitting often affects life expectancy
The longer you sit, the faster you age, Dr. Sood emphasizes and explains that the squeezing position stretches the ligaments, compresses the discs, and puts pressure on the neck, back, arms, and legs. Over time, these auditory lesions cause chronic pain and reduce quality of life.
Not only stopping at the musculoskeletal aspect, sedentary lifestyle also causes increased levels of inflammation, stress and telomere damage (the last part of the chrome) which is an important indicator of aging.
When telomere shorten, the body no longer has the ability to regenerate cells effectively, leading to premature aging and increasing the risk of age-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and Alzheimer's.
Mobilizing simple but effective solutions
The good news is that you don't need to change your whole life to stay away from the risk of rapid aging. Just a few small changes to your daily routine can make a big difference.
Just stand up regularly, walk for 30 minutes at a time or do simple stretching exercises, you help your body slow down the biological clock, Dr. Sood advises.
In addition, you should use a standing desk, walk while answering the phone, and book reminders every hour to stand up or shoulder-width apart. These small actions not only help protect your spine but also save your life.
