On July 10, the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) said that it had just recorded a death suspected of rabies in Ea Tul commune (Cu M'gar district). This is the 5th death from suspected rabies in the area since the beginning of the year.
The victim was Mr. Y.P.H (born in 1990, residing in Ea Tul commune). Previously, on July 9, Mr. H showed symptoms of fear of water and wind, so his family took him to the Central Highlands General Hospital. Here, he was diagnosed with rabies and developed a stroke and high blood pressure.
At 3:30 p.m. the same day, the family asked the patient to go home. Mr. H died at 10:20 p.m.
Relatives said that about 20 days before being hospitalized, the patient was bitten by a dog in both hands. Two days later, the dog died. It was not until July 6 that he was vaccinated against rabies.
Immediately after recording the death, the provincial CDC coordinated with the provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and the Cu M'gar District Medical Center to investigate, handle the outbreak and vaccinate against rabies for dogs and cats in the area.
