In the last days of the year, the weather in Nha Trang sea area is developing complicatedly, with large waves, strong winds, and strong currents.
Faced with this situation, functional forces have planted red flags and placed warning signs prohibiting swimming at sea in many areas along Tran Phu beach.
However, many people and tourists still ignored the warnings and continued to sink into the water, posing a risk of fatal accidents.
According to statistics from the Rescue and Relief Team - Nha Trang Bay Management Board, in less than a month, the unit rescued 13 drowning cases, including local people and tourists.
Notably, many incidents occurred right in the area where red flags were planted and warning signs prohibiting swimming in the sea were placed.
Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital said that about 90% of severe drowning cases requiring emergency hospitalization use alcohol and beer before going into the water.
Doctors recommend that severe drowning patients are often hospitalized in a deep coma, requiring mechanical ventilation, using vasopressors, with a high risk of brain damage due to cardiac arrest beforehand.
Using alcohol and beer and then swimming in the sea not only increases the risk of drowning but also causes many difficulties for emergency and treatment work.
Over the past time, the Nha Trang coastal rescue force has always maintained 100% of its personnel on duty, strengthened patrols, monitored weather developments and currents, and continuously reminded people and tourists not to dive when the sea is rough.
Nha Trang Bay Management Board recommends that during the stormy sea season, the risk of drowning can occur to anyone, including swimmers, if they are subjective and do not comply with safety warnings.
Strictly complying with flags, signs and instructions of rescue and relief forces is an important factor to protect lives and avoid unfortunate consequences.
