According to the Inspectorate of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, from January to the end of May 2025 alone, the city recorded 15 cases of complications related to cosmetic surgery, including 4 cases of belly fat suction.
Due to the increasing demand for beauty, many unlicensed cosmetic facilities have appeared to make a profit. These facilities often lack standard equipment, leading to delay in handling incidents, wasting "golden time" in emergency care.
According to Dr. Vo Duy Anh, Department of Plastic Surgery, City Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Hospital, most of the people performing at these facilities are not doctors, lack expertise, and even have fraud factors. Therefore, when choosing a beauty pageant, it is necessary to carefully research the doctor and the facility, ensuring that they have a full license and standard equipment.
In particular, for liposuction procedures, only hospitals are licensed to perform them; non-hospital facilities are absolutely not allowed to perform this surgery. For a doctor to be able to perform liposuction surgery (called knowing how to do it but not proficient), it requires at least 2 years of training and direct pair-up by experts.
Pill-ups may seem simple, but they require experience and sophisticated sensation to achieve beautiful results. New, inexperienced doctors often only dare to suck the shallow fat layer (above shallow, near the skin) without daring to treat the deep fat layer (under shallow weight), because this area contains a lot of blood vessels and shallow nerves, which can easily cause damage and complications if operated incorrectly.
According to Dr. Duy Anh, when the technique and sensation are not good, it can easily lead to a curly, rough skin surface, or more seriously, cause burns and skin necrosis, and at the same time, cannot remove maximum belly fat. These problems cannot be helped by machines or fat-burning technology, but depend entirely on the skills of doctors. Therefore, it is necessary to choose doctors with expertise, full qualifications and qualified facilities; absolutely do not beautify in places other than hospitals.
