Entering the new school year 2026 - 2027, the weather is in the transitional period, prolonged humid rain, creating favorable conditions for many types of viruses and bacteria to develop and spread. Meanwhile, the large concentration of students at school also increases the risk of infectious diseases.
According to statistics, as of the end of August 2026, Ninh Binh province recorded 2,066 cases of infectious diseases in children under 15 years old. Among them, hand, foot and mouth disease accounted for a large number with 1,426 cases.
Doctor Quach Hoang Diep - Deputy Director of Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital - said that currently there are about 60-70 inpatients each day, mainly infected with Adenovirus, flu, hand, foot and mouth disease and respiratory infections.
Dr. Diep recommends: "The transitional season is a favorable condition for viruses and bacteria to develop and spread. When children show abnormal signs such as continuous high fever, frequent cough, rash, fussiness or diarrhea, parents need to take their children to medical facilities for examination and timely treatment, and do not arbitrarily buy medicine for treatment at home.
Faced with the risk of epidemics at the beginning of the school year, the Ninh Binh Provincial Center for Disease Control has strengthened epidemiological surveillance in the community, schools and medical examination and treatment facilities.
The health sector also coordinates with the Education and Training sector, local authorities, commune and ward health stations and educational institutions to organize environmental sanitation, disinfect classrooms, surfaces and utensils that children regularly come into contact with.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha - Principal of Gia Vien Primary School (Ninh Binh province) - said that after arrangement, the school has one main school point and two branches, with more than 1,540 students, divided into 47 classes.
During the floods at the end of August, the school had one branch flooded. After the water receded, the school mobilized officials, teachers and parents to clean up mud and litter, and sanitize the school. At the same time, the school sprayed disinfectant on the campus, classrooms and functional rooms.
To contribute to taking care of students' health and preventing and controlling dengue fever, the school has developed a plan to spray insecticide at all school sites" - Ms. Ha said.
Mr. Le Hoang Nam - Director of Ninh Binh Provincial Center for Disease Control - said that the epidemic situation in the area is currently basically controlled, and no epidemics have been recorded with complicated developments or outbreaks on a large scale.
However, children, especially children under 5 years old, are still the group at high risk of contracting and spreading some infectious diseases.
In the coming time, the health force will continue to strengthen supervision at schools, nurseries, kindergartens and high-risk areas. When detecting cases or clusters of abnormal cases, health agencies will quickly verify, conduct epidemiological investigations, take samples when necessary and implement handling measures.
Along with disease surveillance, Ninh Binh Department of Health maintains human resources, medicines, supplies, chemicals and equipment in a state of readiness, in order to detect early, zone and handle outbreaks promptly, limiting the risk of spreading in schools.
