Accordingly, the 7-year-old patient suffered severe facial and eye injuries due to firecracker explosions while setting off firecrackers at home. According to medical records, these firecrackers were ordered online and the patient used them out of curiosity. During use, the firecracker unfortunately exploded and the patient was quickly taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
BS.CK2 Ngo Hong Phuc - Head of Burn and Orthopedics Department, Children's Hospital 2, said that the child suffered burns to the face, serious eye damage with many complex complications. Children must be closely monitored and may need many medical interventions to limit the risk of long-term vision loss. Damage caused by firecrackers usually progresses quickly, is severe and very difficult to fully recover, especially in young children.
Also according to Dr. Hong Phuc, this is not a rare case. Every year, especially on holidays and Tet, the hospital receives many cases of children injured in accidents related to homemade or floating firecrackers. Despite their small size, firecrackers can still cause serious eye injuries, heat burns, pressure damage and even life-threatening if infectious complications occur.
Doctors warn that children are the most vulnerable subjects because they do not have the ability to defend themselves, have slow reflexes and are often curious. When an accident occurs, the level of injury in children is usually heavier than in adults and the recovery time is longer.
From the reality of treatment, doctors recommend that parents absolutely do not let children come into contact, play or set off firecrackers in any form; do not buy floating firecrackers, especially products ordered online of unknown origin. Families need to closely monitor children, especially during holidays and Tet.
In case children have eye injuries or burns caused by firecrackers, parents should not arbitrarily treat them at home. It is necessary to quickly give first aid by gently washing the eye area with clean water or appropriate solution, then take the child to the nearest specialized medical facility. Doctors emphasize that early emergency time plays a decisive role in preserving vision and minimizing sequelae.
Just a moment of carelessness can leave lifelong consequences. Saying no to firecrackers is a simple but practical way to protect children's health and future.
