On the morning of March 23, at Dien Bien Provincial General Hospital, the launching ceremony of the "Journey of Light" program for examining and performing cataract surgery for patients took place.
The program will provide free examination and surgery for 100 patients in Dien Bien province, sponsored and implemented by the medical team of Hospital No. II under Kunming Medical University, Yunnan province (China).

According to Mr. Pham Giang Nam - Director of Dien Bien Department of Health, from 2023-2025, the provincial health sector has examined and detected 4,253 cases of cataracts, of which 2,498 cases have been operated on.
The whole province still has over 1,200 cases of cataracts with high risk of blindness requiring surgery. Most patients are concentrated in remote, isolated, and border areas and are mainly ethnic minorities with difficult economic conditions.
The program is organized for the first time in Dien Bien province from June 23-26. 3.
This is a practical activity in community health care, helping patients access specialized medical services, restore vision, contributing to improving the quality of life, reducing burdens on families and society.

Performing an eye exam at the Provincial General Hospital, Mr. Sung A Di (born 1965, Muong Pon commune) said: "My left eye is not clear. Today, with the attention of the government, and the help of doctors to examine and operate on my eyes for free, I am very happy.
According to Mr. Pham Giang Nam, the "Journey of Light" program is also an opportunity for doctors of Dien Bien province to exchange and share professional experiences in examining and treating cataracts and other eye diseases with experts from Yunnan province.
