On April 27, Quang Tri General Hospital confirmed that it had just successfully operated on a patient with kidney cancer on the basis of ponytail disease, a rare congenital defect of the urinary system.
Previously, on April 17, patient Ho Van Nguy (39 years old, residing in Dakrong district, Quang Tri province) was hospitalized after showing symptoms of thrombosis.
Through in-depth imaging diagnosis, doctors at Quang Tri General Hospital determined that the patient had renal cell carcinoma on the horse's navel kidney, a condition that only occurs in about 1/5,000 adults, in which the two kidneys stick together at the lower cucum, forming a horse's navel shape.
Surgery for cancer on the horse's navel kidney has many potential difficulties due to abnormal pathological structures, complex blood vessel systems and the risk of damage to neighboring organs such as the colon and abdominal artery.
The surgical team led by Dr. Truong Vinh Quy - Deputy Director of Quang Tri General Hospital conducted a thorough assessment using 3D pre-operative blood vessel stabilization techniques and detailed planning.
The surgery lasted more than 2 hours, with the main steps being to control the abnormal renal blood vessels, remove the entire tumor and preserve the maximum remaining kidney function.
After surgery, the patient is currently recovering well, kidney function is stable, and no significant complications have been recorded.
Dr. Truong Vinh Quy said that this is a complex and rare case. The success of the surgery affirms the high professional capacity of the medical team and the importance of personalizing treatment strategies for each patient.
