Women over 40 proactively screen for early detection of breast cancer

Every year, Vietnam has more than 24,500 new breast cancer cases, accounting for nearly 29% of cancer cases in women.

Sharing at the launching ceremony of the communication campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer "Joining hands for the woman I love" in 2025 on the afternoon of October 14, organized by K Hospital, the Cancer Patient Support Fund - Bright Tomorrow in collaboration with Roche Pharma Vietnam and related units, Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong, 59 years old, in Hanoi, was moved to recall the darkest time of her life - when receiving the results of bone metastatic breast cancer. 10 years ago, the disease left her so exhausted that she had to move around, thinking that she would never be able to stand firm on her own two feet.

During days that seemed to be left behind only despair, Mrs. Huong found a support in the love of her family, the dedication of doctors and nurses and the belief in herself. From having to have someone to guide her step by step, she persevered in practicing, then joined a sports club. Since then, she has had a chance to run - something she had never thought of before.

Now, after a long journey of fighting the disease, Ms. Huong stands in front of everyone with a healthy, strong appearance and bright eyes and confidence. She shared: "Migration is not the end, but the beginning of the journey of effort. Listen to your body, train and take care of yourself - we can completely overcome it".

Ms. Huong's story is a vivid testament that faith, determination and optimism are the most valuable drugs in the journey to fight breast cancer.

Breast cancer is a common cancer in Vietnamese women and most countries in the world. According to statistics from the International Agency for Healthcare Research (GLOBOCAN) in 2022, each year, Vietnam recorded 24,563 new breast cancer cases, accounting for 28.9% of all cancer cases in women. However, this is a disease that can be completely cured if detected early, treated promptly and properly. The earlier it is detected, the simpler and more effective the treatment is, the higher the cure rate and the lower the treatment cost.

Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health, Chairman of the National Medical Council emphasized: " Breast cancer is not an end but a challenge in life. With determination, love and the companionship of doctors and nurses, we can completely overcome it".

Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan called on: Women, especially those aged 40 and over, should proactively screen for breast cancer. Love yourself, take care of your health - that is the best way to protect your family and cultivate happiness".

He also sent a message to the bearded wing: "Please pay more attention to your women, encourage them to go for regular health check-ups, and get screened early for disease prevention".

Prof. Dr. Le Van Quang, Director of K Hospital, said that the campaign aims to encourage the community to proactively prevent and screen for breast cancer early, reduce the incidence and mortality rate. The highlight of the ceremony was the appearance of "pink warriors" - women who are determined to overcome breast cancer, conveying the message: In this battle, no one must walk alone.
