In Vietnam, projects applying AI in music are creating a lot of controversy. Technology engineer Nguyen Hoang Bao Dai once introduced an AI model that can write 10 songs in just 1 second. At the end of 2022, at the HOZO International Music Festival (HCMC), developer Pencil Group officially introduced two super-real singers Michau and Damsan, while virtual singer Ann also released her first MV "How to Say Love to You". However, after a rather lackluster debut, Ann quickly disappeared from the market.
Recently, the song "Say a lifetime for you" composed by Ken Quach - HUONG MYBONG with 10% support from AI and performed by "AI singer" caused a "storm" on social networks, reaching millions of views and a series of covers on TikTok. When singer Nguyen Vu recorded the song and released the MV on September 25, his version was rated as "more emotional and soulful" than the AI version.
Social networks also spread many videos of "AI singer" performing Trinh Cong Son's music such as "Old Diem" or "Ha trang" with a strong rock style, completely different from the familiar lyrical, profound content.
The video of "Old Diem" on the YouTube channel "AI Love Music" alone attracted more than 302,000 views after 9 days of release. The AI cover of Xin co nhau nguoi dan reached 103,000 views. While the cover of White House posted on October 6 quickly reached thousands of views in just 24 hours. After 4 days, the cover with the rock - ballad style "performed" by AI reached 153,000 views.
These arrangements created a wave of mixed opinions. One side believes that it is a new creative direction that helps Vietnamese music become more modern. While many people are concerned that AI is fading the soul of music Trinh Cong Son.
Some viewers also discovered that AI sang wrongly, changing the line " when the eyes are blue" in the original to " when the eyes are blue", or the line "How do you remember the traces of the migratory birds (hining)" was sung "hining away".
Some Vietnamese artists have considered AI as a testing tool.
In early October this year, musician Thai Nguyen released the MV " khuc ca thanh", marking the step of combining music with AI technology when introducing virtual singer AI/T (Ai Trinh), an image that he built after many months of research.
Singer Dan Truong is one of the few people who proactively used AI in the MV "Em oi vi dau" in 2023, although they had to admit that the AI image was "rdough, lacking emotions".
In the graphic MV (MV visualizer) "Roses" promoting the live concert "Sketch a Rose", singer Ha Anh Tuan and his crew also used AI to create repeating animations throughout the MV.
The image of musician Trinh Cong Son restored by AI in the performance "Noi tay lon" on the TV bridge "Vang mai khuc khay lai" in April this year also caused a lot of controversy.
The song "Mien Hoa Ban Hai Ngay Moi" is a product of AI operated by young person Vi Hoang Anh for about half a month. After that, musician Duong Truong Giang and director Viet Dang edited and completed it to put it on stage and performed it by Duong Hoang Yen in the program "Dien Bien - Sac ban ban sang" which made the public curious but not really convincing.
