On April 7, 2026, Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital said that the hospital's doctors had just successfully performed a cesarean section for pregnant woman T.O (56 years old, residing in Hanoi), welcoming two babies safely born with weights of 2,900g and 2,400g respectively.
According to doctors, this is a case of carrying twins thanks to in vitro fertilization (IVF), belonging to the high-risk pregnancy group due to the pregnant woman being old, having a history of previous cesarean section and gestational diabetes. Throughout the pregnancy, the patient must use insulin daily as prescribed to control blood sugar.
The pregnancy monitoring process is carried out closely under the companionship of BSCKII Ha Cam Thuong - Deputy Head of the Voluntary Obstetrics Department, Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Thanks to close supervision, the health indicators of the mother and fetus are controlled, helping the pregnancy progress more stably each week.

When the pregnancy was 37 weeks and 4 days, on the afternoon of April 6, the pregnant woman showed signs of labor and was indicated for hospitalization at the D4 Voluntary Obstetrics Department for cesarean section. This was assessed as a potentially risky birth, especially difficult during the anesthesia process due to the specific health of the elderly pregnant woman and carrying twins.
However, with professional experience and the smooth coordination of the team, the surgery took place safely. At 3:20 pm, the first baby cried to welcome the world. Just 1 minute later, the second baby was also born in the overwhelming joy of the doctors and family.
The two babies include a boy weighing 2,900g and a girl weighing 2,400g. Both are healthy and have good postpartum reflexes.
The moment the 56-year-old mother burst into tears when she heard her child's birth left many emotions in the operating room. After the surgery, the pregnant woman's health stabilized, and the two babies continued to be monitored and cared for attentively.
According to doctors, this case is not only a special birth but also shows the important role of pregnancy monitoring at specialized medical facilities, especially for elderly or high-risk pregnant women.
Experts recommend that for pregnancies with risk factors such as aged mothers, multiple pregnancies, history of cesarean section or diseases during pregnancy, pregnant women need to be strictly managed, comply with treatment instructions and have regular prenatal check-ups to ensure safety for both mother and baby.
