Faced with the situation of fake and poor quality sunscreens that risk seriously affecting the health of consumers, the Drug Administration has issued a notice requesting the Departments of Health and cosmetic production and trading establishments nationwide to strengthen the management of sunscreens.
Accordingly, relevant units need to urgently review the declaration forms for sunscreen cosmetics that have been received, ensuring that these products comply with current legal regulations. Declarations that do not meet standards will be revoked to eliminate the risk of poor quality and unsafe products.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam also directed functional units to strengthen inspection of labeling and advertising of sunscreen products on the market, avoiding unused advertising that causes confusion for consumers. At the same time, the Testing Center is required to increase product sample collection to test and determine the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) to ensure the transparency and accuracy of the product's sun protection capabilities.
Violating sunscreens will be strictly handled according to regulations, including recall, destruction and appropriate administrative sanctions.
For production and business establishments, the Drug Administration requires reviewing all product records, including product information records (Product Information File - PIF) and the results of determining the SPF index, ensuring completeness, accuracy and readiness to provide to the authorities when required. In addition, units must review the content of product declaration forms as well as product labels, ensuring correct recording of sunscreen characteristics, uses, SPF index, and comply with ASEAN's Guidelines on recording sunscreen cosmetics.
These measures aim to protect the rights and health of consumers, while improving the effectiveness of post-marketing management and inspection of cosmetics in the context of counterfeit and poor quality goods still existing.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam calls on the Departments of Health and cosmetic production and trading establishments to seriously implement the above contents to contribute to building a safe, transparent and sustainable cosmetic market.
