According to the Hai Phong City Department of Health, at 9:30 p.m. on December 18, after receiving information from Hai Duong General Hospital about a number of patients suspected of food poisoning due to alcohol, the Hai Phong City Department of Health directed the Food Safety and Hygiene Department to conduct an investigation to find the cause of the poisoning.
The investigation results were as follows: on the evening of December 16, at Mr. C.N.C's family (Dai An residential area, Tu Minh ward), 11 people had dinner together, dishes: crab soup, sticky rice with onions, fried beef, cooked dog meat and drunk alcohol (alcohol given/given by Mr. N.D.H, working at the Department of Medicine and Pharmacy, Thanh Dong University - Mr. C's colleagues).
Of these, 4 people (Mr. C's wife, mother and 2 children) did not drink alcohol and were in normal health. The 7 people who drank alcohol were Mr. T.M.H (born in 1990), P.V.P (born in 1981), L.T.K (born in 1986), B.N.T (born in 1988), C.N.C (born in 1981), Mr. D.V.D (born in 1982), D.N.H (born in 1981). This group drank about 5 liters of soaked alcohol, which had a negative impact on their health.
6 people were Mr. C's colleagues at Thanh Dong University, 1 person was Mr. C's neighbor. At about 5:15 a.m. on December 18, Mr. D.N.H (from Quang Ninh province) died (the night of December 17, Mr. H stayed at the school's dormitory). The time of death was taken from the family of Mr. H.'s deputy defendant.
On the evening of December 18, according to information from Bach Mai Hospital, the remaining 6 people were hospitalized at the Poison Control Center - Bach Mai Hospital in a state of alertness, rapid breathing, and metabolism. Blood tests of all patients detected methanol with a concentration of 44.6 - 256.9 mg/dL. Testing in the alcohol sample showed a methanol concentration of 30.3 mg/dL, aethanol concentration of 1.84%.
Currently, Tu Minh Ward Police have worked with relevant individuals and will continue to investigate and trace the origin of the above-mentioned spirit drink according to the provisions of law.
